Algeria To Receive 14 Su-34E Medium Bombers

Algeria to receive the first batch of 14 Su-34E medium bombers reported the Russian press. Algeria has been negotiating with Russia to buy 14 Su-34E medium bombers for more than a year.

It took more than eight years of negotiations with ups and downs on both sides to finally come to an acceptable deal. Russia has offered a very degraded Su-32 version for export, Algeria did not want it and preferred to develop the Su 24 as much as possible, which will have undergone three major modernizations in all over the past ten years.

The Novosibirsk Aeronautical Plant (NAZ) (VP Chkalova), started in January the production of the first batch of six Su-34E for Algeria, this emergency batch must be ready from the end of the year 2021 and will be used for the training of Algerian trainers. The start of training will take place in Russia next summer. The rest of the production will be delivered in 2022 and 2023.

According to our sources this is a first order for the constitution of a tactical bombardment squadron with a long range of action, if the aircraft were to give full satisfaction, up to two other squadrons could be formed.

The renewed interest in the Su-34 came after the campaign in Syria, since then Algeria was interested in buying Su-34.

For information, the main difference between the version used by Russia and that acquired by Algeria is in the IFF and the communications system, the rest being identical including access to weapons.

Algeria’s purchase of the Su-34 constitutes a serious development in long-range bombing capabilities on land and especially at sea. The possible purchase of the Brahmos anti-ship missile could give the aircraft a serious advantage. Algeria in the fight against ships in the region.

The Su-34 is a bomber with capabilities to carry air-to-air and air-to-ground operations and therefore lightens the burden of protection and even loaded it keeps a range of up to 1000 km without aerial refuelling.

It has the capacity to carry up to 12 tons of bombs, missiles and rockets with multiple combat configurations.
