Germany’s Rheinmetall announced last week that it has begun delivery of 342 logistics vehicles to the state-owned enterprise in charge of the German military’s fleet of non-tactical vehicles. The first 69 vehicles have already been transferred to BwFuhrparkService GmbH, and up to eight trucks are to be delivered per week.
According the company, these vehicles will give the Army the ability to quickly transport a massive amount of materiel using its own trucks when Germany takes over NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force in 2023.
In its statement, the defense and automotive group said that by supplying these hook lift-equipped TGS 8×4 trucks, Rheinmetall is making another important contribution to bolstering the German Army’s operational readiness. The order, issued at the end of 2019, is worth a figure in the two-digit million euro range, making it the largest single order for commercial trucks in company history. Delivery is expected to be completed by the middle of 2021.
According the company, the vehicles now in serial production will give the Army the ability to quickly transport a massive amount of materiel using its own trucks when Germany takes over NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) in 2023. Delivery of the TGS trucks are thus expected to significantly expand the German Army’s logistic capabilities when it comes to the rapid handling of materiel. The vehicles will be stationed all over Germany, primarily with logistics units.
