
The Bangladesh Army has carried out a significant reshuffle of key leadership positions, with the Defence Ministry announcing several high-level transfers and promotions on Monday, September 1.
Two brigadier generals have been promoted to the rank of Major General as part of the changes.
Major General SM Asadul Haque, previously GOC and Area Commander of Bogura, has been transferred as GOC of the 9th Infantry Division and Area Commander of Savar.
Major General Touhidul Ahmed, former Commandant of the East Bengal Regiment Infantry Training Center, has been appointed as GOC of Bogura.
Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq, former GOC of Cumilla, has taken over as Commandant of the East Bengal Regiment Infantry Training Center.
Major General Habib Ullah, former Chairman of the Sena Kalyan Sangstha, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Nazim-ud-Daula, former Director of Military Operations (DMO), has been promoted to Major General and appointed as GOC of Cumilla.
Similarly, Brigadier General Sajjad Hossain has been promoted to Major General and appointed as the new Chairman of the Sena Kalyan Sangstha.
Just a year ago, two major generals were promoted to lieutenant general, including Faizur Rahman, the director general of Defence Intelligence (DGFI). Rahman has now taken on the role of Quartermaster General (QMG) at Army Headquarters.
In 2024, Major General Md Mainur Rahman, the GOC of the 24 Infantry Division (Chattogram Cantonment), was promoted to lieutenant general and appointed as the GOC of the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC).
In addition, Major General Mohammad Jahangir Alam has taken over as the new Director General of DGFI in 2024, succeeding the GOC and area commander of the 33rd Infantry Division.
