Sweden sends $1.23 billion aid package to Ukraine

Sweden’s defence minister said on Thursday the Nordic country had agreed to donate its biggest aid package to Ukraine so far, worth 13.5 billion Swedish crowns ($1.23 billion).

The aid package is Sweden’s 18th since Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The government is now negotiating with suppliers in Sweden and Europe to supply prioritised equipment such as artillery and drones, Defence Minister Pal Jonson told a press conference.

As Ukraine continues to defend against Russian aggression, European nations are ramping up military assistance to bolster Kyiv’s resilience.

Sweden has now stepped forward with its largest aid package since the start of the war, demonstrating its commitment to long-term support for Ukraine and urging other allies to do the same.

Sweden has announced its most extensive military aid package for Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in February 2022.

The Swedish government pledged 13.5 billion kronor (approximately €1.18 billion or $1.28 billion) to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.

As reported by HotNews.ro, the package aims not only to help Ukraine but also to signal to other European allies the need to take greater responsibility in supporting Kyiv.

“This is a strong message to Ukraine and its people that Sweden stands ready to provide long-term support,” said Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson during a press conference.

“It is also a signal to our allies: Europe must prepare to take on a larger share of the responsibility for supporting Ukraine.”
