Rheinmetall ramps up Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicles production at Hungarian factory

Rheinmetall, on August 25, 2023, announced an expansion of the production of its Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV). The opening of a brand-new manufacturing plant in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, marks a major milestone in the company’s commitment to military production and testing capabilities. This new factory is expected to enable Rheinmetall to double its production of the Lynx vehicle.

Rheinmetall has emphasized the double production strategy, with combined facilities in Hungary and Germany. This approach will more than double the delivery capacity of Lynx vehicles and Lance turrets, a key element of modern armored warfare. The new facility in Zalaegerszeg will play a crucial role in the production and testing of Lynx vehicles, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

The Lynx is a tracked armored vehicle designed to accommodate a crew of three, as well as up to eight passengers. Available in two main variants, KF-31 and KF-41, the length of the LYNX ranges from 7.22m to 7.71m, with a constant width of 3.60m and a height of 3.30m. This robust design allows for a weight range of 34 to 50 tons, depending on the specific variant and configuration. Under the hood, the Lynx is powered by a diesel engine manufactured by Liebherr, with options for 750 hp (563 kW) or a more powerful 1,140 hp (850 kW) engine.

The double production and delivery strategy ensures that Rheinmetall can meet the growing demands of modern military forces. It remains to be seen whether the specific demand for this type of vehicle will follow in the coming months.
