Poland has delivered the first batch of domestically produced Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to its military, with 15 units handed over to the 15th Mechanized Brigade.
According to Defence24, the delivery is part of a contract signed in March 2025 for the production of 111 Borsuk IFVs. The agreement also includes training and logistics support. The production schedule calls for three additional vehicles in 2026, followed by 33 units in 2027 and 55 in 2029, bringing the total to 106 serial-production vehicles plus five prototypes upgraded to operational standards.
“Today is a major day for the Polish Armed Forces. The first 15 Borsuk vehicles are being delivered to the 15th Mechanized Brigade,” said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Minister of Defense.
“The 111 Borsuks are not our final word. We are preparing for another order, another batch for the Polish military. Modifications are also underway. Today we have an amphibious IFV with an unmanned turret. But we also need other variants, including command and support vehicles. We are working on both amphibious and non-amphibious versions,” Kosiniak-Kamysz added.

The Minister also noted increased production rates at Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), the manufacturer of the Borsuk IFV. “For the AHS Krab, we’ve doubled production from 18 to 36 units. Over 200 units of equipment were produced this year, including the 15 Borsuks, which are the most challenging since this is the first production run,” he said.
Kosiniak-Kamysz stated his intention to promote the Borsuk IFV internationally. “I would like Borsuk to become our export hit. Today, the most recognized PGZ product is the Piorun MANPADS. Together with Ministers Bejda and Gołota, we will do everything to promote Borsuk worldwide. The year 2026 should be the year of Borsuk’s international promotion. Polish diplomatic missions are expected to support this effort,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Defense Paweł Bejda, who is responsible for modernization, said, “Borsuk is an excellent vehicle. Our soldiers have been waiting for this HSW product. The Borsuks not only replace Soviet-era systems but also enhance the security of the 15th Mechanized Brigade. This is not the end of orders for HSW or for the Polish defense industry, including both PGZ and private companies.”
Adam Leszkiewicz, President of PGZ, added, “We delivered on the Borsuk IFV. I am confident we will also succeed with the heavy, non-amphibious version, which we hope to unveil at next year’s defense industry expo in Kielce.”
The Borsuk is a modern, tracked, amphibious infantry fighting vehicle designed to transport and protect soldiers against small arms fire, anti-tank grenades, and improvised explosive devices. It is equipped with a 30mm Mk 44S Bushmaster cannon, dual Spike anti-tank missile launchers, and a 7.62mm UKM-2000C machine gun, all mounted in the remotely controlled ZSSW-30 turret system. The Borsuk features high tactical mobility, strong firepower, and high levels of ballistic and mine protection.
Why This Matters: The delivery of the Borsuk IFV is a key step in Poland’s push to replace Soviet-era equipment with domestically developed systems. It supports the country’s defense industrial growth and may have implications for allied nations seeking modern IFVs with NATO interoperability. The platform’s development and potential export could increase Poland’s role in the global defense market.
