Ukrainian kamikaze drones destroyed Russia’s oil refineries in Krasnodar Krai and Roslavl district

A significant drone attack in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, targeting oil refineries for the third time, was reported in the early hours of May 2, by the country’s Defense Ministry.

“Enemy drones once again attacked the Oryol region,” Oryol region Governor Andrei Klychkov said shortly after midnight on Thursday.

This refinery was previously attacked in May 2023 & February 2024. Daily refining output was 72,000 barrels per day.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that air defense forces allegedly failed to shoot down 66 “Ukrainian drones” over the territory of Krasnodar Krai in the morning, as well as two more UAVs over the occupied Crimea.

Meanwhile, videos of nighttime explosions in the region are circulating online. During the night attack, strikes were made on the Slaviansk-ECO oil refinery, bitumen plant, Ilsky oil refinery and a number of other facilities, according to Russian media.

Afipsky Oil Refinery was attacked by Ukrainian drones in the Krasnodar region on May 2.

According to eyewitnesses, the first explosion over the village was heard at 3:10 am local time. After that, the Russians still heard the sound of the engine running in the sky, and then two more explosions.

UAV attack on Smolensk region

The governor of the Smolensk region, Vasily Anokhin, said on the morning of May 2 that allegedly Ukrainian UAVs attacked the region.

“On the territory of the Roslavl district, the enemy attempted to damage the civil energy infrastructure. There are no casualties. Emergency and law enforcement services are working at the scene,” he wrote.

Recall that in three regions of Russia, they complained about shelling and drone raids from Ukraine. Thus, the governors of the Orel and Kursk regions reported that power lines were damaged as a result of the raids, and some Russians were left without electricity. Also, the work of the Russian air defence forces was reported in the Bryansk region.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said Thursday that its air defense forces had either destroyed or intercepted 12 Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Rostov, and Krasnodar regions. It did not mention the attacks in the Oryol and Smolensk regions.

The reported strikes on Russian energy facilities come a day after Ukrainian media reports, citing anonymous security sources, claimed that Kyiv struck at least two oil refineries inside Russia as part of a special intelligence operation.
