The pilot Alexei who crashed Su-57, previously crashed one Su-30, one MiG-29 and two Mi-8 helicopters says Gen. Valery Gerasimov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, reports RIA Novosti . 

The pilot Alexei ejected from a Su-30 aircraft previously.

Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation said in a statement that the Su-57 fighter came down during a training flight near Komsomolsk-on-Amur in the country’s Far East. It said the plane’s pilot safely ejected and there was no damage on the ground.

The Sknyliv air show disaster killed 77 people and injured 543. The pilot and the co-pilot were sentenced to 14 and 8 years in prison respectively for being guilty of failing to follow orders, negligence and violating flight rules.

An investigation will be setup to look into the crash, according to the official Tass news agency, citing an unnamed source.

The pilot Alexei crashed an Mi-8 helicopter previously.

The crash marks the first loss of an Su-57, 10 of which have been built at Sukhoi’s plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur for pre-production tests and combat evaluation. Some of them have been flown in combat during Russia’s military campaign in Syria.

“The Su-57 was performing a test flight at the altitude of 8,000 meters,” Tass quoted a source as saying. “After the control system had failed, the fighter jet spontaneously entered a downward spiral and started descending and then crashing…At a critical altitude of 2,000 meters the pilot decided to eject.”

Pilot Alexei has been seen here next to President Putin.

Its test pilot Alexei survived all previous crashes in the Khabarovsk region, Interfax cited an unnamed source as saying.
