The US Central Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken a Bangladeshi man named Zobaidul Amin (28) to the United States from Malaysia on various charges, including conducting international child sexual abuse.
FBI Director Kash Patel said this in an X post on Friday. In the post, he said that US partners, including the FBI, arrested Zobaidul. He has been on the run since 2022.
The FBI director wrote that the FBI brought Zobaidul from Malaysia to Alaska. He will face charges against him in Alaska. Detailed information on this will be published later.
The FBI director thanked U.S. local partners, including the Malaysian government, for their cooperation in the investigation and arrest.
According to a press release published on Thursday on the website of the U.S. Department of Justice, a Bangladeshi man appeared before the court in the District of Alaska on March 5 for allegedly conducting international child sexual abuse.
In July 2022, a federal grand jury in the United States accused Zobaidul of responding hundreds of children from other U.S. and abroad, including Alaska, on charges of abuse.
According to the complaint, Zobaidul used various social media platforms including Instagram, Snapchat to find minors. He forced them to make sexographic pictures and videos.
Zobaidul lived in Malaysia before the complaint was filed in the United States. He was studying medicine in Malaysia.
In September 2022, Malaysia’s attorney general’s office charged Zobaidul with possessing and making child pornography to himself.
The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice are working in coordination with Malaysian authorities on Zobaidul. He was transferred from Malaysia to Alaska in the United States on March 4th.
According to a press release published on the U.S. Justice Department website, Zobaidul could face up to 20 years to life in prison if convicted.
