RSF shot down Russian-crewed Sudanese Air Force’s IL-76 Transport Aircraft.

A Sudanese Air Force Ilyushin Il-76 transport plane crashed near Babanusa in West Kordofan on November 4, 2025, during a resupply mission amid clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), killing its five Russian crew members.

The RSF claimed they downed the aircraft with a UAE-supplied Chinese FN-6 man portable missile, while the SAF blamed a technical malfunction in the right wing; debris analysis supports the RSF’s account.

This incident, the second Il-76 loss for Sudan’s air force in a year, highlights foreign involvement from Russia, UAE, and Iran in the civil war that has displaced millions.

The plane was bought from Kyrgyzstan 6 weeks ago for $12 million.
