During Awami League tenure (1996-2001, 2009-present), Sheikh Rehana and Sheikh Hasina are known as Madame Commission, the exclusively authorized person of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to transact all illegal cash dealings. Bangladesh’s corruption commission also stopped investigating the matter of illicit wealth accrued by top-ranking Awami League leaders.
Sheikh Rehana, Shiekh Hasina, and family members have deposited billions of dollars received as bribes and kickbacks from various foreign companies in Bangladesh.
Sajeeb Wazed was born in poverty and distances himself from poor Bangladeshi but loves Bangladeshi kickbacks.
Sheikh Rehana owns expensive mansions and wealth in the United Kingdom, although she has no valid source of income for acquiring such colossal property. The son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sajib Wajed Joy, who lives in the United States, also acquired mansions worth hundreds of millions of dollars when his mother was Bangladesh’s Prime Minister.
Joy has hardly much childhood association with Bangladesh and never worked since he graduated from school. His mother lived a life in exile since August 1975, spending a long asylum in India under the patronage of the Indian government. She would live at Basant Bahar, the safe house run by the Indian RAW intelligence there.
As a result, Joy received his early education in India, where he spent much of his formative years. They may have returned to Bangladesh in 1981, but Joy felt isolated from normal family life. This was only to be expected, given his boarding school years, his mother’s intense political activities, and his parents’ estrangement.
Persons who knew Sajeeb Wazed then say he was a somewhat reckless youth. Even later, he reportedly met with an accident in Gulshan in the mid-nineties, totalling the Pajero jeep of a businessman of Narayanganj. Rather than keeping him in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina sent her son to the US for further studies. She perhaps felt that would give him stability and a sense of responsibility.
Life in the USA didn’t seem to change Joy much. That reckless trait in his character showed itself time and again. Records show several cases were filed against him for drunk driving. He has been charged on various occasions with drunken driving, speeding, reckless driving, unlawful use of a radar detection device, and even carrying an unlicensed gun. Joy even spent time in jail for his misdemeanours, not to mention all the fines he had to pay. She couldn’t have chosen a more unsuitable candidate if Hasina had political aspirations for him.
Sajeeb Wazed disliked gathering poor people at home and expressed a distinct disinterest in politics. He often snubbed persons who came to meet Sheikh Mujib’s grandson out of affection or curiosity. Sajeed Wazed completely distances himself from the Bangladesh diaspora in the U.S.
He continued his luxurious life in the US, paid by the blood, sweat, and tears of Bangladeshi expat labour and ready-made garment factory workers. Sajeed Wazed had no shame and guilt of receiving billions in kickbacks from a country he hates so much because he had no sense of belonging to Bangladesh, no affinity for his mother’s party, and no intention of living with his dysfunctional family at home. It was no secret that Sheikh Hasina and their husband, Wazed Miah, had no love lost.
Sajeeb Wazed’s Indian Sikh girlfriend and Jews Wife
During his mother’s tenure as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister [1996-2001], Joy reportedly engaged to an old girlfriend. She was an Indian girl of the Sikh religion. It has been by the intelligence community that Indian RAW used honeytrap for high-ranking foreign nationals, including Sajeed Wazed. Sajeed Wazed’s girlfriend, who was a real RAW agent, is still unknown by many Bangladeshi intelligence agencies, including DGFI.
Hasina, taking cover for an official visit, went to London to formalise the marriage. Along with some close friends and relations, she even took along the cooks of Dhaka’s famous Fakhruddin chef. Her one condition was that the girl convert to Islam. The girl refused. Hasina was more than upset. She reportedly cancelled all programs on that day. She shut herself up in her hotel room all day, refusing to talk to anyone. She immediately returned to Dhaka. The marriage reception never occurred, and her entourage, cooks and all, returned home.
The Late Joy married American citizen Kristine Ann Overmire in the US on October 26, 2002. Kristine reportedly was previously married to Richard D. Loomis. Although the couple had a child, Christine, who has a dignified family background in the United States, recently left Joy for his rowdy lifestyle.
It is learnt that, during the ongoing electoral campaign, Hasina tried to get Joy and his former wife to participate. Still, Christine reportedly refused to be in Bangladesh as she had already cut relations with Hasina’s son.
Rampant corruption during Awami League tenure
Bangladesh’s former prime minister, Sheikh Hasina Wajed, was arrested by hundreds of armed police in a dawn raid yesterday and held in prison on charges of extortion – the most high-profile catch of an anti-graft crackdown by the military-backed government.
Two businessmen accused Sheikh Hasina, who ruled from 1996 to 2001, of extortion totalling 80 million takas ($600,000).
When the Awami League came to power, and Hasina became ruler of the country, Joy became involved in corruption in Bangladesh. There was the Texas-based Infolink International [from November 1998 to March 2001] and Nova BD International, LLC [May 1998 to August 2000]. He had links with the SEAMEWE-4 undersea cable project through Nova BD International. He was also involved with Tyco Communications (USA) along with a confidant, Mahboob Rahman.
Mahboob Rahman assisted Sajeeb Wazed in laundering and siphoning billions of dollars from Bangladesh to the USA and UK.
He founded two other companies, Wazed Consulting and Sim Global Services, in 2000. The monthly sales of these two companies were only $61 million. In the cover of sales, Sajeed Wazed transferred more than $100 million a month to the USA. In his name, Joy bought a brand-new house at 3817 Bell Manor Court, Falls Church, Virginia, on May 12, 2006, worth about ten million dollars. His wife is not a co-owner of the house.
Earlier, he and his wife bought another property worth $25 million at 4823 Martin Street, Alexandria, VA 22312.
Like Joy, his brother-in-law Khandkar M Hossain, husband of sister Saima Wazed Hossain (Putul), started a few businesses in the US when his mother-in-law Sheikh Hasina came to power but dissolved them after a couple of years. These businesses included Bangladesh Metals and Pipes Trading Corporation, Shonali Inc., Doug’s Wholesale Inc., Afsana Inc., and Jampy Corporation.
Apparently, business was not quite their cup of tea. However, despite none of the businesses seeming to make any money and most of them being shut down before long, no one has ever heard of them suffering from financial difficulties. Perhaps their mother’s affection helped them in this regard.
Drink driving and unlicensed firearms possession
On June 14 1998, Joy was arrested in Tarrant County, Texas. He was charged with two counts of carrying an unlicensed handgun and one count of driving while intoxicated. He was convicted of drunken driving and was imprisoned for 120 days, sentenced to 24 months of probation and fined $500.
On February 6, 2000, Joy was charged with reckless driving and having a radar detector in Hanover County, Virginia. He was fined and incarcerated for one day.
On March 19, 2000, he was arrested and charged with reckless driving in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was found guilty and given a suspended 30-day jail sentence, 12 months probation, and a $400 fine.
On April 29, 2001, Joy was charged with speeding in Rappahannock County, Virginia.
On May 20, 2004, Joy was charged with speeding in Arlington County, Virginia.
Real estate of Hasina families
Sajeed Wazed and Saima Wazed Hossain (Putul) owned 130 high-value mansions in the UK. Wazed owns multiple investments and shares in Florida, Virginia, and Texas, worth billions in the USA.
Saima Wazed Hossain [Putul], Sheikh Hasina’s daughter and Joy’s younger sister and her husband, Khandakar Mahbub Hossain, own more than 1000 US apartments and houses. The houses they purchased there include:
456 North Bay Point Way, Jacksonville, Florida. This single-family residence was purchased by Saima and her husband, Hossain, on November 1, 2005, from Merrill and Priscilla King.
845 York Way, Maitland, Florida. Saima and Hossain purchased this single-family residence from David and Elizabeth Cocchiarella on October 16, 2004.
2065 W 119th Avenue, Miramar, Florida. Saima and Hossain purchased this single-family residence from Pulte Home Corporation on October 28, 1998.
Sajeed Wazed Joy and his sister’s financial transactions are facilitated by SunTrust Bank, Capital One, First Carolina Bank and Wells Fargo in the USA and HSBC Holdings Plc, Lloyds Banking Group Plc, Barclays Plc, Standard Chartered Plc, and NatWest Group Plc in the UK.
The repeated visits of Sheikh Hasina to the UK are not about government business; nobody will see Prime Minister Hasina visiting 10 Downing Street and meeting their British counterparts. Instead, she visits to deal with her companies and sign financial documents for transactions in British and American banks.
The US State Department, Treasury, FBI, and British Crown Prosecution Service are silent on Sajeeb Wajed Joy, Saima Wajed Putul, Shiekh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana’s illegal wealth in both countries.
