Russian IL-76 transport aircraft crashed near Moscow

In the Ivanovo region of Russia, A Russian military transport plane, the Il-76, has crashed near its home base in Ivanovo, Russia.

According to numerous photos and videos capturing the moment of the plane’s descent, one of the engines of the Il-76 caught fire and detached from the jet mid-air.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has confirmed the crash of the Il-76 military plane. They report that there were eight crew members and seven passengers on board.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of the catastrophe was an engine fire during takeoff.

Based on the published information, the crashed aircraft was conducting a training flight and remained in the air for several minutes before the engine caught fire.

The four-engine Il-76 is a heavy-lift transport plane that has been in service since the 1970s with the Soviet and then Russian air force. Tuesday’s crash came on a day when the Defense Ministry reported dozens of attacks on Russia by Ukrainian drones.
