U.S. State Department Approves 180km range AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM For Germany Worth $2.9 Billion

The US State Department has approved the potential sale of hundreds of AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles to Germany. The deal will be reviewed by the US Congress.

The German government has requested the purchase of up to 969 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles, spare parts software, and additional equipment. The potential deal is worth $2.9 billion.

The sale of the new missiles to Germany supports U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives. The agreement will strengthen the Luftwaffe’s ability to respond to current and future threats. The deal does not reduce US defence capabilities.

The AIM-120C-8 is one of several modifications of the AMRAAM air-to-air missile. It has a maximum launch range of 180 kilometres, a two-way communication system and an advanced GPS-corrected inertial navigation system.
