Norinco Delivers Sky Dragon 50 To Morocco

Morocco took delivery 24 Norinco Sky Dragon 50 medium-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems in December 2017, the Hespress.com website reported on 28 January without citing any sources.

The Norinco Sky Dragon 50 consists of up to six mobile launchers, a fire distribution vehicle, and an IBIS150 or IBS200 target acquisition radar. The missile has its own active radar seeker and a maximum range and altitude of 50 and 20 km respectively, according to Norinco, which says the system is more affordable and easier to operate than its rivals.

The Sky Dragon 50 was not previously believed to have been ordered by any countries, although a Norinco official told Jane’s in 2016 that it submitted for an Indonesian contest but failed to obtain a contract from Indonesia. The Sky Dragon 50 is currently operated by Morocco and Rwanda.
