The Burmese ordered 6 Su-30SME back in 2018 for $34 million per unit which will be delivered by this year. Some experts believe Myanmar might order additional Su-30SMEs. Currently, the Myanmar Air Force’s Su-30SME is undergoing factory trials before formally handing them over to Myanmar.
Russia expressed confidence that the Su-30 warplanes would become the main fighter jets of the Myanmar’s Air Force to protect territorial integrity and repel terrorist attacks.
Russia has started assembling the six Su-30SME fighters that will be delivered to Myanmar under a 2018 bilateral contract, Myanmar Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing told Russia’s Sputnik News.
The Su-30SME is an export variant of Su-30SM fighter jet, developed by Russia’s Sukhoi Company, and is capable of air-to-air and air-to-ground missions with a wide variety of precision-guided munitions, according to the United Aircraft Corporation.
