Xi Jinping sacked the former Southern Theatre Command Commander, Yuan Yubo, and Political Advisor, Wang Jianwu. These two were absent from yesterday’s 22nd plenary session of the CCP’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee.
They still attended the Standing Committee meeting on February 25, but since then, they have missed four consecutive sessions.
According to past patterns, they must have run into serious trouble — it just hasn’t been officially announced yet.
The current NPC Standing Committee has already shrunk from the original 175 members to 162 this year. Yesterday’s meeting had only 151 attendees present; another 11 were short.
The military members of the Standing Committee originally numbered 14, but now only Fan Xiaojun, the sole full general, former Political Commissar of the Northern Theater Command) and three lieutenant generals — Luo Yuan, former Deputy Secretary of the CMC Discipline Inspection Commission), Fang Xiang, former Political Commissar of the PLA Academy of Military Science), and Wu Jieming, former Political Commissar of the National Defense University) — remain. That’s just four people left.
Xi Jinping has recently picked up two new nicknames: “General Slayer ” and “Great Decapitator. ”
“Decapitator” sounds identical to “Helmsman”. During the Cultural Revolution, Mao Zedong was called the “Great Helmsman.” Netizens spotted the pun and started calling Xi the “Great Decapitator.”
Indeed, the number of PLA generals he has eliminated far exceeds the number of Kuomintang generals killed during the Chinese Civil War.
Previously, Xi Jinping sacked 5 PLA generals and multiple high-ranking military officials. They are General Li Qiaoming (Former Army Commander), General Shen Jinlong (Former Navy Commander), General Qin Shengxiang (Navy Political advisor), General Yu Zhongfu (Former Air Force Political Commissar), and Political advisor General Li Wei (Former Information Support Force).
