A Russian air defence system has struck a residential building in its own territory during a friendly fire incident that wounded at least 11 people, including two children, in what analysts are calling a dramatic failure of military operations.
The missile hit an apartment building in Novaya Adygea, with eyewitness footage capturing the moment of the air defence weapon’s flight and its direct impact on the structure.

The building was struck as Russian forces attempted to repel an incoming drone volley, according to independent analysts, including ASTRA media outlet.
Regional governor Murat Kumpilov initially claimed the apartment block was damaged by Ukrainian drones. However, Russian sources, including military analyst Yan Matveyev, told local media it was a friendly fire incident.
Russia’s Military Informant channel subsequently confirmed the error.
“One of the anti-aircraft missiles of the S-400 air defence system deviated from its target and hit a car park on the outskirts of Krasnodar. Several cars were burned, and neighbouring residential buildings were also damaged.”
Authorities were forced to stage a major evacuation of residents at the location in Russia’s Republic of Adygea following the incident.
The mishap represents another setback for Russian forces, coming as Ukrainian strikes destroyed a massive ammunition warehouse in Debaltseve, in the occupied Donetsk region.
Images show a giant explosion followed by multiple secondary detonations that continued for hours after Ukrainian drones hit the depot.
Meanwhile, Russian forces killed two pensioners in a strike on the Dnipropetrovsk region.
“A 77-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman were killed. A 53-year-old woman was wounded” in the attack on housing in Sinelnikovsky district, Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the regional military administration, said.
Overnight Russian strikes on Kryvyi Rig, about 80 kilometres from the frontline and the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky, killed two people and injured a woman.
