Kosovo will invest $1.1 billion to strengthen armed forces.

Kosovo has announced plans to allocate more than 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) to the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), focusing on developing homegrown drones and strengthening overall military capabilities, according to Kosovo Online.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti outlined plans to develop military drones “Made in Kosovo” and to make the country’s ammunition factory operational.

He also announced that a joint military unit will be established with the Albanian Armed Forces.

The measures aim to deepen cooperation with NATO member states and strengthen the KSF through the acquisition of new equipment, training, and education, both within Kosovo and at leading military academies in partner countries.

He added that the country will continue recruitment for new cadets, with the specific goal of including 1,000 women in the KSF.

In addition, the government will implement a nationwide protection program, under which voluntary reservists will receive proper training and weapons to be mobilized if needed.

While strengthening its own defense industry, Kosovo is also expanding regional cooperation to advance security and interoperability.

Together with Albania and Croatia, it is working to implement the defense declaration signed earlier this year.

The agreement, first announced in March, outlines priorities such as enhancing defense capabilities, intensifying joint training, and countering hybrid threats.

As part of this cooperation, the three countries will coordinate arms procurement by placing joint orders, rather than pursuing separate national purchases.

They also plan to conduct bilateral and trilateral military exercises, expand training through academies and colleges, and develop joint programs to increase recruitment.
