The Italian Navy has finally received the last NH90 helicopter. The fleet now consists of 56 air platforms.
Leonardo took more than 23 years to fulfil the contract. The agreement was signed in the summer of 2000. At the same time, deliveries began only in 2011. Now the Italian Navy has 56 NH90 helicopters. The SH-90A version is used on NATO frigates, while the MH-90A is the tactical transport variant.
The latest helicopter, the SH-90A, was built at the Italian company’s factory in Venice. Its permanent deployment site will be the Maristaeli Luni naval base in Sarzana, Liguria.
The completion of the delivery of the NH90 helicopters marks an important step forward that will further strengthen the partnership between the company and the Italian Navy. This was stated by Leonardo Helicopters managing director Gian Piero Cutillo.
