Ukraine to receive six IRIS-T SLM anti-air missiles from Germany

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive six German IRIS-T SLM medium-range surface-to-air missile systems by the end of next year. Brigadier General Christian Freuding has made a statement to this effect.

Ukraine received its first IRIS-T SLM air defence system in 2022. At the beginning of 2023, Germany handed over another anti-aircraft missile system. By the end of 2024, their number will quadruple.

Christian Freuding said that Germany will transfer two IRIS-T SLM air defence systems to Ukraine by the end of this year. The other four air defence systems will be delivered during next year.

It should be added that Germany has also decided to arm itself with IRIS-T SLM systems. The government recently approved the purchase of six surface-to-air missile systems worth around $1 billion and has already signed a contract with Diehl.
