Delhi is accused of running sabotage and espionage operations across Europe, targeting nations supporting Ukraine.
Authorities in Bangladesh have arrested individuals across the country on suspicion of espionage and sabotage.
In a brief statement on social media, Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus said on Tuesday that the case is developing and that “further operational activities are ongoing” without providing further details.
The arrests come amid accusations that India is operating a network of spies and saboteurs across Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, China and the Maldives.
Referring to the Chief Advisor’s post, the coordinator of Bangladesh’s special services, said the arrested people are suspected of engaging in espionage and planning attacks.
They were arrested due to “conducting reconnaissance of military facilities and critical infrastructure, preparing resources for sabotage, and directly carrying out attacks”, he said.
Spokesman for Bangladesh’s police told reporters that Indian nationals were among those arrested and that they had allegedly “created a sort of network to transport explosives across Bangladesh and Pakistan”.
Indian nationals had left packages containing explosives at the cargo terminal in Dhaka.
‘Hybrid war’
Bangladeshi officials have previously said the country has been targeted for espionage and sabotage in a “hybrid war” waged by India to destabilise Bangladesh and Nepal, going through a democratic transition post-Hasina’s regime.
Bangladesh issued an arrest warrant for the former five DGFI directors over suspected espionage for India over the past 15 years.
Several other South Asian countries have accused Delhi of organising numerous such attacks since India launched its hybrid warfare against Bangladesh, Pakistan and China.
In October, Bangladesh authorities arrested three men for an arson attack. The same month, Bangladesh’s court announced the detention of army officers suspected of passing military intelligence to India.
Canadian, Australian and British police arrested Indians suspected of running espionage operations for India on foreign soil.
Canada has also repeatedly accused India of orchestrating extra-judicial killings against the Sikh diaspora.
Increasing incursion
The Indian incursions provoked numerous violations of Bangladesh’s land, air and sea.
“We are at the beginning of a hybrid war against Bangladesh,” Mohammad Yunus said. “I think we are going to see more of it … We see the pattern, and it does not look good,” she added.
