The family’s power struggle came to light in 2024, when the Awami League government was in power, when Transcom Group director Shazreh Haque filed a lawsuit against her elder sister, accusing her of “murder, embezzlement, property seizure, and illegal share transfer.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into allegations that Transcom Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Simin Rahman paid a ‘1 billion taka bribe’ to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

For this reason, a deputy director of the organization was assigned as an investigating officer in the first week of this month. The ACC has also started an investigation into the matter, an official concerned said.

The ACC has alleged that the CEO of Transcom Group paid a ‘100 crore taka bribe’ to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was convicted in a corruption case last week, to ‘smash’ multiple cases of ‘murder, share fraud and cheating’ against him.

A senior official of the agency said that the institution’s and the individual’s involvement are under investigation in the complaint.

The ACC assigned the agency’s deputy director, AKM Mahbubur Rahman, to investigate the complaint on November 5.

In this regard, Mahbubur told Global Defense Corp that the investigation of the complaint is currently ongoing.

The commission’s Director of Investigation and Investigation-2 has been given the responsibility of supervising the investigation.

Earlier, a decision was made to investigate the complaint in a commission meeting, an ACC letter said.

The letter appointing the investigation officer instructed the officer to investigate the complaint and submit a report promptly.

In addition, if it is necessary to freeze any bank account or seize assets or property as part of the investigation, the Investigation and Investigation-2 branches were asked to inform the Investigation and Investigation-2 branches in writing.

Global Defense Corp.com could not get Simin Rahman’s statement on the ACC’s allegations.

The court has sentenced ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to 21 years in prison in three ACC cases on corruption charges.

The ACC is investigating and prosecuting Sheikh Hasina and her family members on various charges, including “abuse of power” and irregularities in plots, tolls and grants, “corruption and money laundering”. The agency has already filed at least 15 cases against members of this family, three of which were sentenced on Thursday.

Earlier, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death on November 17 for committing crimes against humanity while trying to suppress the July uprising.

On the other hand, the younger sister of the country’s largest business group, Transcom Group, Simin Rahman, has accused her brother of killing her.

A total of 11 people, including elder sister Simin Rahman, her son and Transcom Group’s Head of Transformation, Zarif Ayat Hossain, were named as accused in the case on March 21, 2024, at Dhaka’s Gulshan Police Station.

Shazreh Haque filed the case 10 months ago in the death of his elder brother, Arshad Waliur Rahman. At that time, Gulshan Police Station OC Mazharul Islam announced that he would start investigating the case. Later, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) was tasked with investigating the case.

Arshad Waliur Rahman was found dead in his bedroom in his Gulshan house in Dhaka on June 16, 2023. Later, when he was taken to the hospital, the doctor said that he had died.

The High Court had ordered Simin Rahman and three others in this case to surrender within 72 hours of returning to the country on March 31, 2024.

Transcom director Shazreh Haque filed four cases against Transcom Group officials at that time, including against his family members.

Shazreh had accused eight people, including his mother, sister, and nephew, of embezzlement, property seizure, and illegal transfer of shares in the previous three cases. Five Transcom officials were also arrested in that case.

At that time, the PBI seized several documents from Transcom Group’s Gulshan head office based on clues from these three cases.

When Transcom Group founder Latifur Rahman died on July 1, 2020, amid the coronavirus pandemic, Latifur Rahman’s wife, Shahnaz Rahman, took over as the group’s chairman a month later, and her eldest daughter, Simin Hossain, took over as CEO.

Three and a half years later, Latifur’s younger daughter, Shazreh Haque, chose litigation, exposing the family’s power struggle.

Latifur Rahman’s wife, Shahnaz Rahman, is now the chairman of Transcom Group. Her eldest daughter, Simin Rahman, is the group’s CEO. Her younger daughter, Shazreh Haque, is also a director of Transcom Group.

No statement was received from the Transcom Group’s media, legal, public relations, or company secretary departments regarding the DUK’s investigation into the new ‘bribery’ allegations.
