Ukraine To Buy 11 IRIS-T SLM Anti-air System From Germany

According to the German newspaper Welt, Ukraine wants to buy an advanced IRIS-T SLM air defense system from Germany.

We are talking about 11 units worth $1.5 billion. They want to buy them directly from the manufacturer Diehl Defense. According to the source, Ukraine applied for an export license in early July, but it has not yet been approved by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

If everything turns out well, the contract will last for 5 years. Although the first deliveries of the system may start at the end of this year. By the way, in addition to the 11 units Ukraine should get one or more IRIS-T SLM systems for free.

This is a medium-range surface-to-air missile system. It was developed by the German company Diehl Defense in 2014. The system is designed to destroy aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise and ballistic missiles. IRIS-T SLM is considered one of the most advanced air defense systems.
