Russian Propaganda Exposed In Ukraine War As TB2 Drone Destroys Russian-made Anti-stealth 48YA6-K1 Radar In Kherson

48Ya6-K1 radar advertised as an anti-stealth radar but failed to detect Bayraktar TB2 drones in the Ukraine War.

A high-precision strike eliminates a Russian modern radar system in the southern Kherson region, Ukraine.

According to the Telegram channel AFU StratCom Ukrainian troops for two days 18-19 July destroyed in Kherson region – universal mobile three-coordinate radar station 48Ya6-K1 “Podlet-K1” near the Lazurne and electronic warfare system “Repelent-1” near Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Images shared on social media show a charred Russian 48Ya6-K1 “Podlet K1” mobile three-coordinate S-Band radar marked with the ‘Z’ letter.

As noted by the website of Russia’s state arms exporter, the 48Ya6-K1 “Podlet K1” is an automated 3D low-altitude radar designed to be fitted in automated and manual control systems of the Air Defense and Air Force for automatic (semi-automatic) detection, coordinates management, tracking, state attribution (identification), flight information obtaining from aerial objects and prospective low-altitude means of air attack, including stealth ones (advertised), in forested and moderately rugged terrain and contested jamming and fire-intensive environment.

If the radar is designed and built to detect stealth objects then it should have detected Turkish TB2 drones which carry external payloads and a large propeller to power the drone. Howver, the air defense radar’s mobile launcher and electronics connectivity were destroyed by small munitions MAM-L, a common munition used by Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones.

Since the 1950s, Russia has been publishing misleading performance data about their arms. Yet another example of Russian propaganda has been exposed in actual combat.

The radar is designed for low-altitude, a circular scan of a combat mode and inter-service application. It uses a phased-array antenna (the upper big array) for detecting and tracking of low-altitude aims.

The lower two back-to-back arrays are secondary radar, the thinner array for international standard (SIF Mark Ⅻ), the larger for the national Russian IFF. The narrow antenna next to the big array is a compensation antenna for protection against jamming.

The Podlet-K1 is a long-range, high-altitude surveillance radar system deployed by the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces capable of detecting airplanes flying at a distance of 200 kilometers and altitudes of up to 20 kilometers. The Podlet-K1 radar was first unveiled in April 2018.

Repellent-1 (Репеллент-1) is a Russian electronic warfare system designed to suppress the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles at a distance of up to 30 to 35 km.

“Repellent” is able to detect miniature air targets on their control signals at a distance of more than 35 km, but is able to suppress drones only at a distance of not more than 2.5 km.
