Indonesia Launched Its Fifth KCR-60M Fast Attack Craft

Indonesian state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL launched the fifth KCR-60M (Kapal Cepat Rudal 60 Meter) fast attack craft (FAC) in a ceremony presided by the Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto on December 5, 2021.

Coinciding with Fleet Day 2021, PT PAL Indonesia officially launched the fifth 60-meter fast attack craft destined to the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL). The event was attended by Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, Commander General Andika Perkasa, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Yudo Margono, and CEO of PT PAL Indonesia Kaharuddin Djenod.

The cut-steel ceremony of this vessel and of the following unit took place on August 2nd, 2019. A total of 18 ships of this class are planned. These 5th and 6th units are set to feature “more sophisticated technology” compared to the first four KCR-60M vessels. The fourth unit has been commissioned on July 27, 2019.

CEO of PT PAL Indonesia, Kaharuddin Djenod stated: “We are proud to express our gratitude for the confidence given by the Ministry of Defense to PAL in the project to build two units of 60-meter KCR ships.”

In his speech, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said: “Without a strong maritime power, it is impossible for our country to be strong. Our nation is supported by a strong defense industry so that we do not depend on foreign defense industries.”

According to PT PAL these ships are equipped with a complete weapons system such as surveillance radar, IFF system, CMS (3 Console), 57 mm Main Gun, Surface to Surface Missile Launcher, Secondary Gun 20 mm, ESM system, and Decoy Launching System. It can sail up to 5 (five) ) day and conduct various missions such as anti-surface warfare, and offshore patrols in territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone. In addition to the basic functions above, KCR-60M also have additional functions to conduct surveillance activities, as well as search and resuce (SAR).

Danish company Terma announced during IMDEX Asia 2019 that it was officially awarded the contract for delivery of a complete C-Series Combat Suite for four KCR-60 vessels.
