In the Vinnytsia region of Ukraine, a Su-27 plane crashed during an exercise. Both pilots were killed, local media reported.
“Search and rescue activities are underway,” the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
According to ukrinform.net, a Ukrainian Air Force fighter crashed during the Clear Sky 2018 international exercise in the Vinnytsia region.
Combat training “twin” Su-27UB with serial number 963104240 was built in 1991, received the tail number “70 blue” and entered the 100th separate fighter aviation regiment of the USSR Navy, based at the Saki airfield in the Crimea. A year later, the fighter jet was handed over to Ukraine – it was enrolled in the 831st Fighter Aviation Brigade in Mirgorod, ukrinform.net writes.
In 2009, the aircraft was mothballed due to the unavailability of spare parts, but in 2014 it was returned to service. The aircraft that was never maintained in the brigade’s TEC; only applied camouflage to the fighter according to the new Ukrainian standard.
There were two pilots on board: a colonel of the Ukrainian Air Force and a trainee pilot, killed.
Last year, a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter jet crashed at around on December 15 while attempting to land during a scheduled flight. Oleksandr Fomenko, a pilot, Major, 43 died. He was chief of the air combat training unit of the tactical aviation brigade of the Air Command Center of the Air Force of Ukraine.
The military prosecutor’s office opened criminal proceedings under the Violation of Aviation Safety Rules article 416 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code of Ukraine.
