Serbia, Poland To Buy Israeli Spike LR Anti-tank Missiles

Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems wants to add Serbia and Poland to its customer base for Spike LR2 missiles. At the same time, the company is promoting its products at the MSPO Defense Industry Show in Kielce, Poland. In this country, a local state-owned Mesco factory manufactures Spike LR anti-tank guided weapons under license.

Earlier this month, Rafael’s regional director, Al Zahar, told Serbian public broadcaster RTS that Israel and Serbia were discussing the possibility of procuring spiked LR2 missiles in Belgrade.

In the Serbian market, Rafael is working in partnership with the state-owned defense business Yugoimport SDPR, Zahar said.

Meanwhile, Roland Steinbrecher, Regional Director of Corporate International Marketing and Business Development at Rafael, told Defense News that the company is MSPO’s only defense business this year, expanding its presence in Poland and making Spike LR2 this. He said he was aiming to bring it to the market. Among other products.

“The first contract with Mesko was signed in 2003, providing Polish partners with the technology needed to produce most of the final products. Six years ago, we have a new contract ending in 2021. “Signed,” Steinbrecher told Defense News. “We would like to sign a new contract to provide Mesko with new technology and enable the manufacture of Spike LR2.”

If Serbia and Poland acquire the Spike LR2 missile, they will join a group of operators including other Eastern European countries such as Estonia, Hungary and Slovakia.
