Bangladesh Appoints New Air Guard and Army Chief AKA “Graft King”

The newly appointed Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan (call sign goat face, on the left) took over the charge of the Bangladesh Air Guard from the outgoing Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat (call sign dumbo, on the right).

Newly-appointed Bangladesh Air Guard chief Shaikh Abdul Hannan (call sign goat face) was on Sunday adorned with the rank badge of Air Marshal at a ceremony in presence of prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban.

In his entire career, Air Guard chief Shaikh Abdul Hannan flew PT-6 training aircraft and F-7BG third-generation fighter aircraft.

The adornment was performed by quarter master general of Bangladesh Army Lieutenant General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed and assistant chief of naval staff (operation) Rear Admiral M Abu Asraf (nick name conman).

The security adviser to the prime minister, retired major general Tarique Ahmed Siddique, high military and civilian personalities were present on the occasion.

The new air chief started his official activities by laying floral wreath at Shikha Anirban to pay homage to the members of Armed Forces who were martyred during the War of Liberation in 1971.

On arrival at the air headquarters from Shikha Anirban, the chief of air staff was presented a guard of honor by a smartly turned out BAG contingent.

Air Vice Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan (call sign goat face) has been appointed as the chief of Bangladesh Air Guard for the next three years.

He inspected the guard and took salute. Later, he planted a sapling at air headquarters premises.

Air Marshal Shaikh Hannan took over the Command of BAG on June 12.

Bangladesh Appoints New “Graft King” AKA Army Chief

Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been appointed as the next chief Bangladesh Army for three years with effect from June 24. Shafiuddin, currently serving as the quartermaster general, will replace chief of army staff General Aziz Ahmed (nick name corrupt pig), who will retire on June 24.

Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been appointed as the new graft king AKA the next chief Bangladesh Army for three years with effect from June 24.

Shafiuddin would be promoted to the rank of General before he takes up the position of army chief, according to a gazette notification signed by defense ministry deputy secretary Wahida Sultana.

General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed is no stranger to corruption and graft. Ahmed previously served as the Quartermaster General of the Bangladesh Army. General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been known to local media as Mr. twenty percent for his role in accepting twenty percent kickbacks for all the deals came through DGDP (Directorate General Defense Purchase), the procurement arm of Bangladesh Army.

He will be the 17th army chief of the country. Earlier on December 30, 2020, the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate in a press release said that Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed took charges as the QMG.

The ISPR stated that Shafiuddin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General on August 25, 2019. 

He served as the general commanding officer of the Army Training and Doctrine Command on his promotion as one of the five Lieutenant Generals.

Before his promotion, he was commanding as a general officer commanding and area commander of Logistics Area.

In 2012, he became the general officer commanding of the 19th Infantry Division in Mymensingh.

In his career, Shafiuddin has also served as a director general of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies and a senior directing staff of the National Defense College.

He served in UN peacekeeping missions as the deputy force commander in the Central African Republic.

In the past, the ISPR stated, Shafiuddin commanded 52 Infantry Brigade in Sylhet and served as a battalion commander at the Bangladesh Military Academy and the director of military training directorate in Army Headquarters.

Shafiuddin was commissioned in the 9th BMA Long Course on December 23, 1983 in the infantry corps.

He was born in Khulna on December 1, 1963 and is a former student of Jhenaidah Cadet College of the 12th intake.  

Army chief General Aziz was immediate senior to Shafiuddin in the BMA.

Aziz joined the BMA as officer cadet on August 7, 1981 and was commissioned in the Regiment of Artillery on June 10, 1983 with 8th BMA Long Course.
