Myanmar Navy Commissioned Seven Warships And One Submarine

Myanmar Navy celebrated its 73rd Anniversary at Yangon’s No 3 Naval Wharf in Thilawa. During this event, seven new warships have joined the Navy including the Fast Attack Craft (492), Submarine Chasers Yan Nyein Aung-class 443/446, and the new submarine Minye Theinkhathu that was manufactured in Russia and transferred from India.

The event was attended by Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces Senior General Min Aung Hlaing as well as diplomats from Russia and India.

In October 2020, Myanmar Times has published news announcing the acquisition by the Myanmar navy of the first Soviet-made Kilo-class diesel-electric submarine from India. The submarine has a total of six motors including two 3,650 hp (2,720 kW) diesel-electric motors, one 5,900 hp (4,400 kW) motor, two 204 hp (152 kW) auxiliary motors, and one 130 hp (97 kW) economic speed motor. It can reach a surface speed of 10 knots (19 km/h) and 17 knots (31 km/h) in submerged mode.

The Fast Attack Craft is a locally-made ship built for the Myanmar Navy. The ship has a length of 49 m, a beam of 10 m, and a displacement of 500 tons. She is powered by two diesel engines supported by two waterjet propulsors offering a top speed of 30 kn (56 km/h) with an estimated cruising range of 1,800 mi (2,900 km).

The Fast Attack Craft is armed with one NG-18 6-barrel 30 mm CIWS (Close-In Weapon System) and two 14.5 mm locally made Type-91 quad AA guns, four C-802 Anti-ship missiles, one turret mounted Igla SAM air defense system and two locally made MA-16 Heavy machine guns.

The Yan Nyein Aung-class is a submarine chaser ship designed to perform anti-submarine warfare missions. The ship has a length of 63 m and is armed with two Chinese Type-66 57 mm (2.2 in) twin guns, two 2M-3M 25 mm (0.98 in) twin AA guns (2×2), two Type 81 ASW rocket launchers, two triple-tubes torpedo launchers for Shyena torpedoes and two LDC(Large Depth Charge) throwers.
