Ukraine Announces Revival of AN-178 Transport Aircraft Project

Ukraine announced the revival of the Antonov aircraft plant and started production of An-178 transport aircraft.

Despite the fact that the once largest Ukrainian enterprise “Antonov” is now on the verge of bankruptcy, Ukraine announced the beginning of the revival of the concern, thanks to the first “import-substituted” aircraft An-178.

Despite the fact that several years have passed since the completion of the testing of these aircraft, analysts believe that there is no other particular reason for stopping the production of An-178 except Antonov no longer has funds for the production of aircraft.

The first import-substituted aircraft An-178 should be delivered to Peru as part of a contract with this country concluded in 2019, however, despite this fact, it has not yet been possible to build an aircraft for almost a year and a half – the estimated date for the transfer of the An-178 to Peru is scheduled for the second half a year.

It should be noted that in recent years the Antonov has tried to cooperate with many countries, including the United States, Great Britain, China and Saudi Arabia however, it has failed to achieve any significant success.

Earlier it became known that until 2023 the Ukrainian Air Force may also receive three An-178 aircraft, however, given the timing of the construction of one aircraft, experts believe that at best the Ukrainian military will receive 1-2 aircraft.
