RAAF Super Hornet to Showcase Dazzling Flypast during the Christmas Weeks

The Royal Australia Air Force’s No. 77 Squadron is saying farewell to its F/A-18A/B Hornets this week with a series of aerial displays over Port Stephens and Newcastle.

It comes as RAAF Base Williamtown, home to No. 77 Squadron for more than 30 years, and its transition to the fifth-generation F-35A Lightning nears completion.

The Royal Australia Air Force’s No. 77 Squadron is saying farewell to its F/A-18A/B Hornets this week with a series of aerial displays over Port Stephens and Newcastle.

It comes as RAAF Base Williamtown, home to No. 77 Squadron for more than 30 years, and its transition to the fifth-generation F-35A Lightning nears completion.

F/A-18A/B Hornet operations will still continue for No. 75 Squadron at RAAF Base Tindal.

People in Newcastle and Port Stephens are being urged by the RAAF to keep their eyes turned to the skies at the following dates and times:

Monday, December 7: A single aircraft handling display at 2pm over Nobby’s Beach (Newcastle) and Birubi Beach (Port Stephens).

Tuesday, December 8: Four aircraft formation at 10am over Birubi Beach, and a single aircraft handling display at 2pm over Fighter World Museum in Williamtown and Nobby’s Beach.

Wednesday, December 9: Four aircraft formation at 10am over Fighter World Museum.

Thursday, December 10: Single aircraft handling display by the Worimi-painted F/A-18A Hornet at 10am over RAAF Base Williamtown.

Friday, December 11: Eight aircraft formation flight over the region covering Nelson Bay, Medowie, Raymond Terrace and Newcastle, followed by a four aircraft formation display at 11am over RAAF Base Williamtown.
