Azerbaijan destroyed Armenian Tor-M2KM surface-to-air missile systems

On November 9, at 15:50, the Tor-M2KM Surface-to-air missile (SAM), which was used against Azerbaijani aircraft and placed between the private houses by the Armenia in the Khojavend direction of the front was destroyed by the precise fire of MAM-L missile.

During the battles in the Fuzuli-Jabrayil direction over the past two days, three Tor-M2KM surface-to-air missile systems (SAM) of the Armenian armed forces have been destroyed by a MAM-L precise strike, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense told news.az.

The Smart Micro Munition (MAM-L), developed by Roketsan in line with today’s battlefield requirements, attracts attention as a solution that increases the efficiency of air platforms with low payload capacity, especially that of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) such as Anka and TB.

The area of the Fuzuli district is 1,386 sq. km. Some 13 settlements and 20 villages are located in this district’s territory, freed from the occupation. Twelve of the settlements, constructed after liberation, accommodate the internally displaced families.

The brave Azerbaijani army liberated Arish village in Fizuli district, Doshulu village in of Khojavend district from Armenia’s occupation, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said on Twitter, Trend reports on November 9.

An Azerbaijani combat unmanned aerial system (UAS) has destroyed an Armenian Tor-M2KM surface-to-air missile (SAM), Azerbaijan’s defense ministry announced on November 9.

Azerbaijan has also shared footage of the event on its official YouTube channel. The defense ministry did not reveal which UAS was used to carry out the attack.

According to information provided by the defense ministry, the Armenian missile system was destroyed in the Khojavend district which lies in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Local reports indicate that more than one of the TOR-M2KM systems had been destroyed in the conflict that started earlier this year. It is worth noting that Armenia first announced the delivery of Russian-made systems in 2019.

Tor-M2KM is part of the Tor missile family of systems used for low to medium altitude, short-range anti-air warfare. The Armenian M2KM modules are mounted on the KAMAZ-63501 8×8 vehicles.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
