Boeing has secured $3.1bn in contracts from the US Navy for Harpoon and Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response (SLAM ER) weapon systems in support of Foreign Military Sales (FMS).
Boeing Weapons vice-president Cindy Gruensfelder said: “We are pleased to continue our long legacy of partnering with the navy to build weapons that defend America and its international partners.
“These awards will not only extend production of the Harpoon programme through 2026, they will also restart the production line for SLAM ER and ensure deliveries through 2028.”
Under the contract, Boeing will provide non-recurring engineering associated with the SLAM ER obsolescence redesign effort and the production and delivery of 650 SLAM ER missiles in support of the government of Saudi Arabia.
Boeing also won a contract valued at $656m to provide 467 Harpoon anti-ship missiles to Japan, India, South Korea, Qatar, Brazil, and The Netherlands.
Harpoon Block II is an ideal weapon for anti-ship and land-strike missions and features an autonomous, all-weather, over-the-horizon strike capability. SLAM ER is a combat-proven, all-weather, over-the-horizon, precision-strike missile.
The company started construction on a new 35,000ft² manufacturing facility in October last year to support increased production for the Harpoon and SLAM ER programmes.
