Defense Department cancels US Marines annual training deployment to northern territory Australia amid COVID19 concerns

The US Marines are expected to complete the rotation of training in Australia.

In a statement released by the Department of Defense said that it has cancelled this year’s annual deployment of a US Marine Corps rotational training force to northern Australia because of restrictions designed to slow the spread of the Covid-19 in Australia learned GDC citing Defence Minister Linda Reynolds.

Australia and the United States will discuss options for a possible later deployment, which will be subject to conditions improving and the deployment’s viability, said the minister.

“Any decision in relation to the 2020 Marine Rotational Force – Darwin (MRF-D) in no way affects Australia’s commitment to host next year’s, or subsequent, MRF-D rotations,” she stated.
